Designing Your Small Space

As summer draws to a close, many of us are looking to freshen up the decor of our homes for the fall season. If you live in a small apartment, or have a small room in your home, CW Interiors knows it can be hard to decorate without overcrowding the space. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of five design tips to help maximize on space while still adding a touch of personality to your small living areas this fall.

Multifunctional Pieces

When you are shopping for furniture for any small space, the best thing you can do is select multifunctional, compact, and mobile pieces. For example, a futon can double as a couch and a bed. A storage ottoman is another great multifunctional furniture piece, especially when you’re working in a small area.

Does your room have hardwood or tiled floors? Then rugs are your best friend! They can warm up those cold floors while adding a splash of color. A small room may present an issue when you’re shopping for an area rug that will perfectly fit in the limited available space, but don’t let that discourage you. CW Interiors has rugs of all shapes and sizes; we can help you find the right rug(s) to create a custom look that reflects your individuality.

Do you live in a rented space? Most landlords don’t allow tenants to make permanent changes to the room itself, such as painting the walls or putting up decals that can’t be removed later. But don’t worry! You can still decorate those bare walls, you’ve just got to get creative. Stop by CW Interiors to pick up some trendy and stylish art prints that will integrate your personality into the room. Then, print off some personal photos and, using some adhesive wall hooks, you’ve got a one-of-a-kind gallery wall!

Accent Furniture

A great way to add some flare to a small room is with a pouf. Yes, a pouf. Poufs are large, solid cushions that are typically used as a seat. Recently people have been using them as extra seating, as an ottoman, and as a coffee table! This versatile furniture piece is a must for any room design. They’re easy to move around, store during vacations, and they add function to those small living areas.

Even small rooms have big design potential! Decorate the door with a bold tapestry or temporary decals. Add some flare and make the room seem bigger with a well placed mirror. Want to add some ambiance but are worried about a lamp taking up too much room? Use a tension rod to hang fairy lights (it can also double as an extra spot to hang artwork!).
